The Other Side

Our research question looked into the possible link between certain genres of music and elevated levels of illegal drug use. Two scholarly articles that we found provided evidence for the positive link between certain music genres and illegal drug use. One article specified that music such as dance, techno, hip-hop, heavy metal, and rap as opposed to jazz and pop were specifically responsible for this drug use. The other scholarly article that we assessed graphed the relationship between drug use and certain genres of music. The graph showed that illegal drug use increases when adolescents are exposed to music environments such as raves and certain concerts. 

            The results of our findings did not surprise me at all. I have personally been to raves and techno concerts and have seen the drug use happen in front of me. I expected for the results to come to this conclusion. Because the genres of music that influence illegal drug use are very popular today, our findings may imply a larger population of young adults experimenting with these illegal drugs. 

            The emergence of illegal drug use has caught the attention of many people. In particular, the up-and-coming artist, Macklemore, wrote a song about the use of cough syrup in today’s time and how it can ruin people just like it did him. The song is called “Otherside”:

Our world today is dealing with the ongoing problem of extensive drug use. This blog wants to update viewers on research and studies that are being conducted on the relationship heavy drug use and modern-day concerts. This blog looks into a more specific view of this problem: Is there a link between certain genres of music, in particular house, dance, techno, hip-hop, and rap, and elevated levels of illegal drug use (Opiates, psychedelics, inhalants, hallucinogens, and amphetamines)? 

If our leaders can find a solution to this huge problem, there could be a significant decrease in the death rates and mental problems around the world, specifically for adolescents.

This question will be answered through an in-depth analysis of studies conducted by researchers located in the areas where drug-use is a major problem. 
The picture below shows a "rave". Drug use is typically used the most at these "raves". A rave can be defined as an organized, anti-establishment and unlicensed all-night dance party,featuring various genres of electronically produced dance music, populated by large numbers of youths and young adults.
